A model provider the runtime routes a session to instead of GitHub Copilot’s own model routing: an OpenAI-compatible, Azure or Anthropic endpoint, or a local one such as Ollama.

With a provider set the runtime needs no GitHub authentication, and the Copilot model catalogue says nothing about what the endpoint serves, so the runner does not consult it: an id the endpoint lacks is refused by the endpoint itself.

Fields

base_url: String

API endpoint URL, e.g. http://localhost:11434/v1 for Ollama.

provider_type: Option<String>

"openai", "azure" or "anthropic"; None is the runtime’s default, "openai".

api_key: Option<String>

API key; local endpoints take none.

max_prompt_tokens: Option<i64>

Prompt-token ceiling for a model the runtime has no limits for. The runtime compacts the conversation before a request would exceed it.
