The base envelope (SPEC §2, field order normative). Fields 1-8 are the cleartext routing header; field 9 is the sealed region.

Envelope format version (SPEC §2 field 1).

message_type: u32

Cleartext message type (routing); re-bound inside the seal (SPEC §2 field 2).

flags: u8

Interaction-shape + sealed bitfield (SPEC §2 field 3).

correlation_id: Bytes32

Random per initiating message; echoed by responses and every stream frame (SPEC §2 field 4).

sender: Bytes32

Sender DID launcher id (SPEC §2 field 5).

recipient: Bytes32

Recipient DID launcher id (SPEC §2 field 6).

sender_epoch: u32

Sender key epoch for rotation disambiguation (SPEC §2 field 7).

stream: Option<StreamHeader>

Present iff the shape is a stream frame (SPEC §2 field 8 / §3).

sealed: SealedPayload

The e2e-sealed region — all type-specific content (SPEC §2 field 9 / §5).

Serialize the cleartext header (fields 1-8, excluding the sealed region) — the bytes WU2 binds as the AEAD AAD so an on-path party cannot alter routing metadata (SPEC §5.2).

Errors

MessageError::Codec if any field fails to serialize (should not happen for a well-formed in-memory envelope).
