Arguments for record_spend: a partial read where the model paid for the slice but nothing about it may be cached, so the row (on first insert) carries sha256 '' – a value no real digest can equal, so lookup_read’s equality check can never treat it as a stub candidate. On conflict, only the spend columns move.
