Variants

Lazy

Scanned where it is: only the rows shown, and what a query needs, are read.

Decompressed

Decompressed whole into a temporary file of the same format, which is then scanned lazily.

Converted

Read through whole into a temporary Arrow IPC file, which is then scanned lazily.

InMemory

Read whole into memory before the table appears.
