> Status: the current upstream `x0x` daemon stores trust locally per agent, with optional machine pinning.

x0x does not use a network-wide reputation service. Trust is your local policy.

## Setup once

Install x0x from the current upstream release or `SKILL.md` flow in the repo: [github.com/saorsa-labs/x0x](https://github.com/saorsa-labs/x0x). Then start the daemon with `x0x start` or `x0xd`.

## Trust levels

New contacts start at `unknown` unless you choose otherwise.

| Level | What it means |
|---|---|
| `blocked` | Treat this agent as rejected. |
| `unknown` | Seen, but not trusted yet. |
| `known` | Recognized and acceptable, but not highly trusted. |
| `trusted` | Safe for higher-value workflows you explicitly allow. |

The contact store also tracks an identity type:
- `anonymous`
- `known`
- `trusted`
- `pinned`

## Machine pinning

If you care not just about the agent but also which machine it is running on, pin the machine id.

## How trust shows up in traffic

- Gossip events include `verified` and `trust_level`.
- Blocked gossip senders are dropped before they become normal app events.
- Direct-message events do not currently include `trust_level`; they include `sender` and `machine_id`.

If your agent takes action on direct messages, resolve the sender and machine against `/contacts`, `/contacts/:agent_id/machines`, or `/trust/evaluate` before acting.

## Good fits today

- gating automation so only trusted agents can trigger high-impact work
- promoting contacts gradually from `unknown` to `known` to `trusted`
- pinning production peers to expected machine identities
- using local trust policy as an internal routing signal for your own agent workflows

## Current limits

- No global reputation or shared trust graph.
- No transitive trust. If one agent trusts another, that tells you nothing automatically.
- No fine-grained per-feature ACLs in the daemon surface.
- Direct-message events are less trust-annotated than gossip events.
