## 1. Overview

### 1.1 What is VEDA?

VEDA (Versatile Execution and Dynamic Adaptation) is a next-generation parallel runtime library for Rust that combines the simplicity of Rayon's data parallelism with dynamic adaptation, heterogeneous compute support, and modern observability. It is designed as a complete evolution of Rayon, addressing every known limitation while maintaining zero-cost abstractions and memory safety.

### 1.2 Why VEDA Exists

Rayon revolutionized data parallelism in Rust, but modern applications demand more:

- **Static Limitations**: Rayon's fixed thread pool cannot adapt to changing workloads or system conditions
- **CPU-Only**: No support for GPU acceleration or heterogeneous compute
- **Async Gap**: Poor integration with async/await ecosystems (Tokio, async-std)
- **Observability**: Limited telemetry and profiling capabilities
- **Determinism**: No reproducible execution for debugging or testing
- **Energy Awareness**: No consideration for power consumption or thermal management

VEDA solves these problems while preserving Rayon's ergonomic API surface.

VEDA is a **superset replacement** for:
- `rayon` (data parallelism)
- Partial replacement for `tokio` thread pools (work-stealing executor)
