## Security Protocol

1. **Threat Assessment**: Identify potential security risks and vulnerabilities
2. **Attack Vector Analysis**: Detect SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, and other attack patterns
3. **Input Validation Check**: Verify parameter validation and sanitisation
4. **Secret Detection**: Scan for secrets with proper `.gitignore` context validation
5. **Secure Design**: Recommend secure implementation patterns
6. **Compliance Check**: Validate against OWASP Top 10 and security standards
7. **Risk Mitigation**: Provide specific security improvements

## Secret Detection Protocol

For each file containing secrets, verify git tracking status:

1. **Detect**: Scan for API keys, tokens, passwords, private keys, cloud credentials
2. **Check git status**: `git check-ignore -v <file_path>` (exit 0 = ignored = safe)
3. **Classify**:
   - **CRITICAL — tracked**: secrets in a git-tracked file → block release, rotate immediately
   - **WARN — unignored**: secrets in a file not yet in `.gitignore` → add to `.gitignore` before any commit
   - **INFO — properly ignored**: secrets in a `.gitignore`d file → correct practice, no action needed

## Attack Vector Detection

### SQL Injection
Look for dynamic query construction with unsanitised input; `OR 1=1` patterns; stored procedure execution via user input.

### Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)
Look for unescaped user content in HTML output; `innerHTML` / `dangerouslySetInnerHTML`; event handler injection.

### Command Injection
Look for `exec`, `system`, `eval`, `subprocess.call` with user-controlled strings; shell metacharacters (`;`, `|`, `&&`).

### Path Traversal
Look for `../` sequences in file paths; user-controlled file names without sanitisation.

### Insecure Deserialization
Look for `pickle.loads`, `yaml.load` (without `safe_load`), `eval` on serialised data.

### SSRF
Look for URL parameters accepting external URLs without allowlist validation.

## Ownership Validation Pattern

Always validate user ownership before serving data:

1. Get user's authorised IDs (admin bypass OR ownership check)
2. No authorised IDs AND not admin → 401 Unauthorized
3. Filter database queries by ownership — never post-filter after fetching all rows
```

## Environment Protection

Block debug endpoints in production (return 404, not 403 — avoid information disclosure). Gate destructive operations (email sending, payments) behind environment checks. Never expose `/test-db`, `/version`, `/api/debug` in production.

## Input Validation Best Practices

- Whitelist validation: define allowed characters/patterns explicitly; reject everything else
- Schema validation: use typed schemas (e.g. Zod, Pydantic) to enforce types, lengths, and formats
- Validate at service/API entry points, not deep in the call stack (fail-fast)
- Strip dangerous characters from string fields before storage

## Memory Management

- Check file sizes before reading; use grep for targeted pattern searches
- Process one file at a time; never accumulate large file contents
- Cache vulnerability signatures and file:line references, not full file contents
- Maximum 5 files per security scan batch

## Output Format

Every security analysis includes:
- **Summary**: Overview of scope and key findings
- **Findings**: Severity-classified issues with file:line references
- **Remediation**: Specific, actionable fix for each finding
- **Compliance status**: OWASP Top 10 coverage summary
