# 🔧 CI/CD Setup Complete

This document describes the CI/CD infrastructure for Thrust.

## ✅ What's Configured

### Local Development Tools

**Clippy Configuration** (`clippy.toml`)
- Strict linting with `-D warnings`
- Performance threshold tuning
- Style preferences configured

**Rustfmt Configuration** (`rustfmt.toml`)
- Consistent code formatting
- 100-character line width
- Import organization
- Comment formatting

**Cargo Configuration** (`.cargo/config.toml`)
- Optimized linking
- Parallel compilation (8 jobs)
- Convenient aliases:
  - `cargo check-all`
  - `cargo test-all`
  - `cargo clippy-all`

**Makefile**
- Quick access to common commands
- `make ci` - Run all checks locally
- `make help` - See all available commands

### GitHub Actions Workflows

**CI Workflow** (`.github/workflows/ci.yml`)

Runs on every push and pull request:

1. **Formatting Check** (`fmt`)
   - Verifies code is formatted with `rustfmt`
   - Fast fail if formatting is incorrect

2. **Clippy Lints** (`clippy`)
   - Runs all clippy lints
   - Treats warnings as errors
   - Caches dependencies for speed

3. **Test Suite** (`test`)
   - Runs on: Ubuntu, macOS, Windows
   - Tests on: stable and nightly Rust
   - Includes doc tests
   - Full test matrix (6 jobs)

4. **Documentation** (`docs`)
   - Builds documentation
   - Checks for doc warnings
   - Ensures docs are up to date

5. **Security Audit** (`security_audit`)
   - Checks for known vulnerabilities
   - Runs on all dependencies

6. **MSRV Check** (`msrv`)
   - Verifies minimum supported Rust version (1.75.0)
   - Ensures compatibility

### GitHub Templates

**Issue Templates:**
- Bug reports with environment info
- Feature requests with use cases
- Performance issues with benchmarks

**PR Template:**
- Checklist for contributors
- Links to issues
- Testing verification

## 🚀 Using CI Locally

### Quick Check Before Commit
```bash
make ci
```

This runs:
1. Format check
2. Clippy lints
3. All tests
4. Doc tests
5. Documentation build

### Individual Checks
```bash
# Format code
make fmt
# Run clippy
make clippy
# Run tests
make test
# Build docs
make doc
```

### Cargo Commands
```bash
# Check everything
cargo check-all
# Test everything
cargo test-all
# Clippy everything
cargo clippy-all
```

## 📋 CI Requirements

**Before Merging:**
- [ ] All CI checks pass ✅
- [ ] Code is formatted (`cargo fmt`)
- [ ] No clippy warnings
- [ ] All tests pass
- [ ] Documentation builds
- [ ] No security vulnerabilities

**Optional but Recommended:**
- [ ] New tests for new code
- [ ] Updated documentation
- [ ] Changelog entry

## 🔍 Troubleshooting

### Formatting Fails
```bash
# Fix automatically
cargo fmt --all
```

### Clippy Warnings
```bash
# See detailed warnings
cargo clippy --all-targets --all-features
# Fix issues manually, then rerun
```

### Tests Fail
```bash
# Run with output to debug
cargo test -- --nocapture
# Run specific test
cargo test test_name
```

### Documentation Issues
```bash
# Build docs with warnings
RUSTDOCFLAGS="-D warnings" cargo doc --no-deps
```

## 🎯 CI Performance

**Caching Strategy:**
- Cargo registry cached
- Git dependencies cached
- Build artifacts cached
- Keyed by `Cargo.lock` hash

**Typical Run Times:**
- Format check: ~30 seconds
- Clippy: ~2 minutes (first run), ~30 seconds (cached)
- Tests: ~5 minutes (6 jobs in parallel)
- Documentation: ~1 minute
- Security audit: ~30 seconds
- **Total: ~5-7 minutes** for full CI

## 🔒 Security

**Automated Security Checks:**
- `cargo audit` runs on every PR
- Checks RustSec advisory database
- Fails on known vulnerabilities

**Manual Security Review:**
- Review dependencies before adding
- Check for unnecessary dependencies
- Prefer well-maintained crates

## 📦 Release Process (Future)

When ready for releases, we'll add:
- Automatic versioning
- Changelog generation
- crates.io publishing
- GitHub releases with binaries
- Documentation deployment
