**Strengths:**
1. **Clear responsibility hierarchy:** Each module has a single, well-defined purpose
   - `platform.rs` → environment detection
   - `storage.rs` → download & local management
   - `error.rs` → error mapping
   - `lib.rs` → public interface & docs

2. **Ready for inference layer:** Future `NativeRuntime` can be added in a new module without disrupting existing code:

### Potential Concerns

**1. HTTP Client: reqwest vs alternatives**

Currently: `reqwest 0.12` with rustls (good choice)

**Pro-mistral.rs perspective:**
- Mistral.rs won't add HTTP dependencies (GGUF loading is file-only)
- HuggingFace downloads remain in spn-native (correct layer)
- No conflict expected

**If you need lightweight alternatives later:**
- ~~`ureq`~~ (sync-only, wrong for spn-native)
- ~~`hyper`~~ (too low-level)
- `reqwest` is correct choice

- Alternative (if needed): Use `Box<dyn Fn(PullProgress) + Send>`
- **Verdict:** Current design is fine; allows compile-time monomorphization.

#### 4. Platform Detection API: ✅ GOOD

2. **No retry logic:** Current implementation is synchronous on network failures
   - **Status:** Acceptable for MVP
   - **Future:** Consider adding backoff for transient failures
   - **How:** Extract HTTP client setup; add `retry_policy` parameter to builder

3. **Concurrent download safety:** Current code downloads to a temp file, then moves
   - **Status:** Safe (atomic rename on most filesystems)
   - **Verification:** Consider adding `atomic_write` crate if needed later

## 5. Async Patterns & Design

### Assessment: ✅ GOOD (8/10)

#### Strengths

1. **Correct use of tokio primitives:**

#### Concerns

1. **No backpressure handling for large files:**
   - Current: Reads entire chunk into memory before writing
   - Risk: 8GB model download with 1MB chunks = memory is fine
   - **Assessment:** Acceptable for this use case (HTTP buffer wins anyway)

   If needed:

- `ModelStorage` trait → implemented by `HuggingFaceStorage`
- `DownloadRequest` → consumed by `.download()`
- `DownloadResult` → returned by `.download()`
- `ModelInfo` → returned by `.list_models()`
- `PullProgress` → callback updates
- `BackendError` → error conversion
- `KnownModel`, `Quantization`, `ModelArchitecture` → re-exported for convenience

**No circular dependencies:** spn-native depends on spn-core; spn-core has zero dependencies on spn-native.

### Integration with Nika (Future): ✅ EXCELLENT ARCHITECTURE

## 9. Security Considerations

### Assessment: ✅ SOLID

#### Strengths

1. **No unsafe code:** Entire crate is `#[forbid(unsafe_code)]`
2. **Checksum verification:** All downloads are verified against HuggingFace's SHA256
3. **HTTPS only:** HuggingFace URLs use `https://` (TLS via rustls)
4. **No code execution:** Downloads are data-only (GGUF files are not interpreted)

#### Concerns

1. **No signature verification:** Currently relies on HTTPS only
   - **Status:** Acceptable for MVP (HuggingFace's HTTPS is sufficient)
   - **Future:** Consider GPG signature verification if models become sensitive
   - **How:** Add optional `verify_gpg` feature using `gpg-rs`

2. **Directory traversal risk (low):**
