# RustySquid Implementation Status
## Completed Tasks (Phase 1-4)
### Phase 1: Memory Safety ✅
- **Task 1.1**: Implement total cache size limit (50MB) - COMPLETED
- Added AtomicUsize tracking for total cache size
- Implemented LRU eviction when limit exceeded
- **Task 1.2**: Add per-entry size limit (5MB) - COMPLETED
- Rejects entries larger than MAX_ENTRY_SIZE
- Tests verify oversized entries are rejected
### Phase 2: Request Safety ✅
- **Task 2.1**: Add request size limit (64KB) - COMPLETED
- Enforces MAX_REQUEST_SIZE during request reading
- Returns 413 error for oversized requests
- **Task 2.2**: Implement request timeout (30s) - COMPLETED
- CONNECTION_TIMEOUT already implemented
- All I/O operations use timeout wrapper
- **Task 2.3**: Add connection limits (100 max) - COMPLETED
- AtomicUsize counter tracks active connections
- Rejects new connections with 503 when limit reached
### Phase 3: Error Handling (Partial)
- **Task 3.1**: Replace all unwrap() calls - COMPLETED
- No unwrap() in production code (only in tests)
- Main function returns Result for proper error handling
### Phase 4: Logging ✅
- **Task 4.1**: Replace println! with async logger - COMPLETED
- Integrated tracing crate for async logging
- All println! replaced with appropriate log levels
## Pending Tasks
### Phase 1: Memory Safety
- **Task 1.3**: Implement memory pressure detection
- Parse /proc/meminfo for available memory
- Skip caching when memory is low
### Phase 3: Error Handling
- **Task 3.2**: Handle all Result types properly
- Review all `let _ =` patterns
- Add proper error propagation
- **Task 3.3**: Add graceful shutdown handler
- Handle SIGTERM/SIGINT signals
- Clean shutdown of active connections
### Phase 5: Documentation
- **Task 5.1**: Add doc comments to all public APIs
- **Task 5.2**: Create examples directory
### Phase 6: Stress Testing
- All stress testing tasks pending
### Phase 7: Quality Standards
- Pending implementation per paiml-mcp-agent-toolkit
### Phase 8: Release Process
- Pending - requires completion of Phase 1-6
## Current Status
### Safety Metrics
- ✅ No unwrap() calls in production code
- ✅ No println! calls (replaced with tracing)
- ✅ Memory-safe with size limits
- ✅ Connection limits prevent DoS
- ✅ Request size limits prevent memory exhaustion
### Known Issues
- Binary size: 1.5MB (target: 500KB) - due to tracing dependencies
- Missing: Memory pressure detection
- Missing: Graceful shutdown
- Missing: Comprehensive error handling for all Results
### Test Coverage
- Unit tests for cache operations ✅
- Property tests for invariants ✅
- Connection limit tests ✅
- Request size limit tests ✅
- Memory limit tests ✅
## Next Steps
1. Implement memory pressure detection (Task 1.3)
2. Complete error handling (Tasks 3.2, 3.3)
3. Add documentation (Phase 5)
4. Run stress tests (Phase 6)
5. Optimize binary size (remove tracing or use lighter alternative)
6. Prepare for 0.1.0 release
## Code Quality
- Follows Rust best practices
- No unsafe code
- Comprehensive test coverage
- Async-first design
- Resource limits prevent DoS attacks
