# Tutorials

Start here if you have not used `rtb-forge` before. Each tutorial builds one
working program from an empty directory.

| Tutorial | What you end up with | Roughly |
|---|---|---|
| [Read a repository's history]01-read-a-repositorys-history.md | A program that opens a git repository and prints its log, a diff and a blame | 20 minutes |

Once something works, the [how-to guides](../how-to/index.md) cover specific
tasks and the [reference](../reference/index.md) covers every key, flag and
error.

## What is not covered yet

There is no tutorial for the release-provider slice, which covers checking a forge for a
newer release and streaming the asset down. That path needs a live forge or a
mock server to be worth following, and writing one against a real GitHub
repository would date badly. The
[how-to guides](../how-to/01-configure-a-release-source.md) cover it
task-by-task in the meantime.
