# retex-engine
The TeX typesetting engine of retex: a clean-room implementation of
LuaTeX 1.22's typesetting machine.
It contains the tokenizer, macro expansion, conditionals, assignments,
grouping, paragraph and page building, math typesetting, alignments, the
e-TeX and LuaTeX extensions, format dumping and loading, and shipping pages
out to the PDF backend. Lua is connected through a host trait implemented by
`retex-lua`.
This crate is a component of [retex](https://gitlab.com/severin-lemaignan/retex),
a TeX engine written in Rust that replaces `lualatex`. See the retex README for
the project as a whole. The API serves retex and may change between versions.
