# Credits & artwork terms
## Distribution logos
`assets/logos/*.txt` and the corresponding generated constants in `src/logo.rs`
are ASCII adaptations of the source artwork below, made for purefetch in 2026.
Contours are sampled onto a 40-column, at most 20-row character grid. Colors are
quantized; white internal details may become negative space, and neutral marks
are lightened for dark terminals. These adaptations are not official brand assets.
The program's MIT/Apache-2.0 licenses do not relicense this artwork. The original
creators retain their rights. Project names and logos identify the reported
operating system and do not imply affiliation with or endorsement of purefetch.
Trademark rights are not granted by the software or artwork licenses.

For Kali, the source is `Kali/Logomark/kali-dragon-black.svg` in the linked press
pack. For Apple, it is the inline navigation mark. Devuan's original emblem is
preserved on Wikimedia Commons from `devuan-editors/devuan-art`; its original
repository URL is no longer available. The MX source's background rectangle is
omitted. Compound source images contribute only their logomark, without lettering.
## Explicit artwork licenses and notices
- **Debian:** the open-use logo is copyright 1999 Software in the Public Interest,
Inc., designed by Raul Silva. This ASCII adaptation uses the
[CC BY-SA 3.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/) option offered
by [Debian](https://www.debian.org/logos/), and is distributed under that license.
- **NixOS:** “NixOS Logo” by Simon Frankau, Tim Cuthbertson and Daniel Baker,
maintained by the NixOS Marketing Team, from
[NixOS/branding](https://github.com/NixOS/branding), licensed under
[CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/). The ASCII adaptation
and the NixOS logo within the README illustration and cover retain this notice.
- **MX:** the source repository's [copyright file](https://github.com/MX-Linux/mx-packageinstaller/blob/master/debian/copyright)
lists copyright 2017–2026 Adrian, Dolphin_Oracle and MX Linux, under GPL-3.0-or-later.
The adapted MX artwork retains those terms. Its original SVG is supplied as
`assets/logos/mx.svg`; the editable ASCII form is `assets/logos/mx.txt`.
- **Tux:** created by Larry Ewing using GIMP. The
[kernel.org notice](https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/logo.txt) permits
use with attribution to Larry Ewing as the original artist.
