## Architecture

### Hexagonal Design

The state browser follows hexagonal architecture principles:

- **Primary Adapter**: TUI view component driving the application
- **Domain Logic**: State management and filtering in `StateBrowserState`
- **Secondary Adapter**: Leverages `StatePersistence` for state I/O
- **Clean Separation**: UI concerns separated from business logic

### Data Structures

#### StateBrowserState

```rust
pub struct StateBrowserState {
    states: Vec<StateEntry>,              // Loaded states
    selected_index: usize,                // Current selection
    list_state: ListState,                // Ratatui list state
    current_state: Option<WorkflowState>, // Detailed state
    view_mode: StateBrowserViewMode,      // List or Details
    filter_query: String,                 // Search filter
    sort_mode: StateSortMode,             // Sort configuration
    details_scroll: usize,                // Scroll position
    details_page_size: usize,             // Pagination
    scrollbar_state: ScrollbarState,      // Scrollbar state
    state_dir: PathBuf,                   // State directory
}
```

#### StateEntry

Compact representation for efficient list rendering:

```rust
pub struct StateEntry {
    workflow_name: String,
    workflow_version: String,
    status: WorkflowStatus,
    progress: f64,
    checkpoint_at: SystemTime,
    started_at: SystemTime,
    total_tasks: usize,
    completed_tasks: usize,
    failed_tasks: usize,
    file_path: PathBuf,
}
```

### View Modes

```rust
pub enum StateBrowserViewMode {
    List,     // State list with filtering/sorting
    Details,  // Detailed state inspection
}
```

### Sort Modes

```rust
pub enum StateSortMode {
    NameAsc,
    NameDesc,
    ModifiedAsc,
    ModifiedDesc,
    ProgressAsc,
    ProgressDesc,
}
```

## Integration Points

### State Persistence

- Uses `StatePersistence` from `src/dsl/state.rs`
- Loads states from `.workflow_states` directory
- Supports state deletion via persistence layer

### TUI System

- Integrated into `AppState` as `state_browser` field
- Added `StateBrowser` view mode to routing system
- Event handling via `handle_state_browser_key()`
- Rendering via `render_state_browser_static()`

### Theme System

- Consistent color scheme using `Theme`
- Status-based color coding
- Progress bar color gradients

## Visual Design

### Color Scheme

| Element    | Color  | Meaning     |
|------------|--------|-------------|
| Running    | Yellow | In progress |
| Completed  | Green  | Success     |
| Failed     | Red    | Error       |
| Paused     | Cyan   | Suspended   |
| Progress < 50% | Red | Low progress |
| Progress 50-99% | Yellow | Moderate |
| Progress 100% | Green | Complete |

### Layout Components

1. **Header**: Title with workflow name/version
2. **Filter Bar**: Search input and sort mode display
3. **Content Area**: State list or details (scrollable)
4. **Status Bar**: Keyboard shortcuts and help
5. **Scrollbar**: Visual scroll indicator (details view)

## Testing

### Unit Tests (12 tests)

1. `test_state_browser_creation`: Initialization
2. `test_state_entry_from_state`: State conversion
3. `test_sort_mode_cycle`: Sort mode transitions
4. `test_progress_bar_rendering`: Visual elements
5. `test_duration_formatting`: Time formatting
6. `test_state_filtering`: Filter functionality

All tests verify core functionality without requiring CLI integration.

### Integration Testing

The state browser integrates with:
- State persistence layer
- TUI event system
- Ratatui rendering pipeline
- Theme system

## Performance Optimizations

1. **Lazy Loading**: States loaded only when browser opened
2. **Filtered Rendering**: Only filtered states processed
3. **Buffered I/O**: State files use buffered readers
4. **Pagination**: Large state files handled via scrolling
5. **Cached Calculations**: Progress/duration computed once
6. **Minimal Re-renders**: Only update on state changes

## Code Quality

### Documentation

- Comprehensive module-level documentation
- Function-level doc comments
- Usage examples in doc comments
- Inline comments for complex logic

### Error Handling

- Proper `Result` types throughout
- Graceful degradation on errors
- User-friendly error messages

### Type Safety

- Strong typing with custom enums
- No unwrap() in production code
- Option types for nullable values

## Usage Example

```rust
// In TUI application
let mut app = App::new()?;
// User presses 's' from workflow list
// -> Triggers state browser opening
// -> Loads states from .workflow_states/
// -> Displays interactive list
// User navigates with ↑/↓
// User presses Enter on a state
// -> Loads detailed state information
// -> Displays scrollable details view
// User presses 'r' to resume
// -> Workflow resumes from checkpoint
// User presses 'd' to delete
// -> Confirmation modal appears
// -> State deleted on confirm
```
