## Test Implementation Patterns

### Manager Initialization Tests
```go
func TestManagerCreation(t *testing.T) {
    t.Run("CreateManager", func(t *testing.T) {
        manager := NewManager(unsafe.Pointer(nil))
        if manager == nil {
            t.Fatal("Failed to create Manager")
        }
    })
}
```

### Error Handling Tests
```go
func TestManagerNilDocument(t *testing.T) {
    manager := NewManager(unsafe.Pointer(nil))
    t.Run("MethodName_NilDocument", func(t *testing.T) {
        _, err := manager.MethodName()
        if err == nil {
            t.Fatal("Expected error for nil document, got nil")
        }
    })
}
```

### Input Validation Tests
```go
func TestInputValidation(t *testing.T) {
    manager := NewManager(mockHandle)
    t.Run("Method_InvalidInput", func(t *testing.T) {
        err := manager.Method("")
        if err == nil {
            t.Fatal("Expected error for empty input, got nil")
        }
    })
}
```

## Test Coverage Goals

### Current Coverage (Phase 7)

**Implemented Tests:**
- ✅ 4 new test files for Phases 1-5 core functionality
- ✅ 1 comprehensive integration test suite
- ✅ 50+ individual test cases
- ✅ Error handling validation
- ✅ Input parameter validation
- ✅ Manager interaction testing

**Coverage by Phase:**
- Phase 1 (Metadata): 12 test functions
- Phase 2 (Security): 8 test functions
- Phase 3 (Layers): 7 test functions
- Phase 4 (Thumbnails): 12 test functions
- Phase 5 (OCR): Existing tests
- Integration: 6 test functions

### Achieving 95%+ Coverage

To reach 95%+ test coverage:

1. **Mock PDF Documents:** Create in-memory mock documents for deeper testing
2. **FFI Call Mocking:** Mock FFI layer to test manager business logic independently
3. **Edge Cases:** Additional tests for boundary conditions and special cases
4. **Integration Workflows:** Complete end-to-end workflows with realistic data
5. **Performance Tests:** Baseline performance metrics for critical operations

## Test Execution Strategy

### Phase 1: Unit Tests (✅ Complete)
- Individual manager functionality
- Error conditions
- Input validation
- Configuration management

### Phase 2: Integration Tests (✅ Complete)
- Multi-manager workflows
- Cross-manager communication
- Cache consistency

### Phase 3: System Tests (Future)
- Real PDF documents
- FFI integration validation
- Performance benchmarks

### Phase 4: Regression Tests (Future)
- Prevent functionality regressions
- Validate edge cases
- Test data integrity

## Mocking Strategy

### Mock Document Handles
```go
// Nil document (error cases)
mockNilDoc := unsafe.Pointer(nil)
// Valid handle (for validation testing)
mockHandle := unsafe.Pointer(uintptr(1))
```

### Testing Without Real PDFs

Current tests are designed to work without real PDF files:
- ✅ Manager creation and configuration
- ✅ Input validation and error handling
- ✅ Method signature verification
- ✅ Cross-manager integration

Real PDF testing requires:
- Actual PDF files in test data directory
- FFI implementation of Rust layer
- Integration with real rendering/OCR engines

## Continuous Integration

### GitHub Actions Integration
```yaml
name: Go Tests
on: [push, pull_request]
jobs:
  test:
    runs-on: ubuntu-latest
    steps:
      - uses: actions/checkout@v2
      - uses: actions/setup-go@v2
      - run: go test ./go/pkg/pdfoxide/managers -v -cover
```

### Local Pre-commit Testing
```bash
#!/bin/bash
go test ./go/pkg/pdfoxide/managers -v
golangci-lint run ./go/...
gofmt -d ./go/pkg/pdfoxide/managers
```

## Test Metrics

### Test Statistics
- **Total Test Functions:** 50+
- **Test Cases (sub-tests):** 100+
- **Test Files:** 4 new + 5 existing = 9 total
- **Lines of Test Code:** ~2,500 new
- **Coverage Target:** 95%+

### Critical Test Coverage

**Must Cover:**
- ✅ Nil document handling
- ✅ Empty input validation
- ✅ Parameter boundary conditions
- ✅ Manager initialization
- ✅ Cross-manager interaction

**Should Cover:**
- Special character handling
- Long value processing
- Configuration changes
- Cache invalidation

**Nice to Have:**
- Performance benchmarks
- Memory leak detection
- Concurrency testing
- FFI boundary testing

## Troubleshooting Tests

### Common Issues

**Build Failures:**
```bash
# Check for undefined functions in test files
go build ./pkg/pdfoxide/managers
# Verify test file syntax
gofmt -l go/pkg/pdfoxide/managers/*_test.go
```

**Test Failures:**
```bash
# Run with verbose output
go test -v -run TestName
# Check for race conditions
go test -race ./pkg/pdfoxide/managers
```

**Import Issues:**
```bash
# Verify module is initialized
go mod tidy
# Check for missing dependencies
go mod verify
```

## Future Testing Enhancements

1. **Real Document Testing:** Load actual PDF files
2. **FFI Integration Testing:** Test with real Rust FFI layer
3. **Performance Benchmarking:** Measure operation speeds
4. **Stress Testing:** Test with large documents
5. **Concurrency Testing:** Multi-goroutine scenarios
6. **Memory Profiling:** Detect memory leaks
7. **Property-Based Testing:** Generate test cases automatically

## Test Maintenance

### Adding New Tests

When adding tests for new functionality:

1. Create test file: `feature_test.go`
2. Follow naming convention: `TestFeatureName`
3. Use subtests: `t.Run("Scenario", func(t *testing.T) {})`
4. Document test purpose with comments
5. Update this TESTING.md guide

### Test File Template
```go
package managers
import (
    "testing"
    "unsafe"
)
// TestNewFeatureCreation tests feature creation
func TestNewFeatureCreation(t *testing.T) {
    t.Run("CreateFeature", func(t *testing.T) {
        manager := NewFeatureManager(unsafe.Pointer(nil))
        if manager == nil {
            t.Fatal("Failed to create FeatureManager")
        }
    })
}
```

## Success Criteria
