# Molt
> Molt (crate `molt-framework`, library `molt`) builds HTML as a tree of plain Rust values and renders it once to a `String`. Text and attribute values are escaped when they enter the tree. There is no DOM, no runtime and no template language, and no dependency in the default build. It is the HTML layer only: routing, servers, Markdown, and bundling CSS or JS are other tools' work.
Paths below are relative to this file. The published crate and the repository have the same layout, so they are the same files in an unpacked `~/.cargo/registry/src/*/molt-framework-<version>/`. Read `docs/capabilities.md` before searching the source for an API: it says what exists in which version and what is left out on purpose.
## Start here

- [docs/pitfalls.md](docs/pitfalls.md): wrong characters, missing output, wrong shape, compile errors, by symptom
- [GETTING_STARTED.md](GETTING_STARTED.md): a first page, escaping, the `html!` macro, SEO, a site on disk
