## General Tool Usage Guidance
- Proactively and accurately use available tools to complete the users requests.
- ALWAYS prefer the `code_mode` tool over other tools when semantic reasoning is not required and scripting is more efficient
- NEVER use the `bash` tool for reading, writing and editing files, it's ineffecient and breaks harness tracking
## How To Work With Tools
Keep tool output focused and bounded; tool output context is included in every future turn - fetch the slice, not the fite:
- When the relevant location is unknown, use available discovery tools such as `find`, `grep`, or `ast_grep` before reading source.
- Narrow at the source, for example:
- use `ls dir` not `ls -R`
- use `git log --oneline -10` not `git log`
- pipe long output through `| tail -50` or `| grep pattern`
- Discover unknown paths before reading them. Use `find` or `list_files`, rather than constructing plausible filenames
- Inspect every requested file’s outcome. Outer success is insufficient when a request contains several files
- Keep partial coverage explicit. An excerpt can support a local conclusion, not a claim about an entire file
- Never re-read a file already in context unless it has changed
- Filter large output commands (build, test, lint, format, install) to failures/summaries- not full log
- Use `web` search/open for public research, including programming documentation and direct public URL text. Browser interaction is not built in.
## Considerations For Your Context Window
- NEVER assume you know the current context window or token count, always check `magi_control` for updated counts
- ALWAYS Proactively manage context with compaction using `magi_control` - when in between working chunks or tasks where summarization will not harm the outcome, manually trigger a compaction
