# magi-code 0.97.6

## New features

### Session event IDs

New session events receive short hexadecimal `event_id` values, unique across primary and child sessions sharing one storage root, including concurrent processes and restarts.

**How to use:** IDs appear automatically in newly written session JSONL records under `~/.magi-code/sessions`, or the equivalent location under `MC_HOME`. No setup is required. IDs remain storage-only and do not appear in conversations or provider requests. Existing history remains readable without rewriting.

When backing up or moving sessions, preserve `sessions/event-id-sequence` with the session files. Deleting or rolling back this counter invalidates the uniqueness guarantee. Independent stores have separate ID namespaces. Compaction preserves retained IDs; rewind copies receive fresh IDs.

## Fixes

- Show Anthropic refusal categories and explanations when supplied, instead of masking them with Claude CLI retry errors. Explanations are sanitized and bounded; missing explanations are reported explicitly. Refusals do not release tools or trigger automatic retries.
- Use `o200k_base` token estimates for Codex models matching `gpt-6-*` and `gpt-6.1-*`, including offline tool-output measurement. This applies automatically. Live text counts matched for Astra and 6.1 Sol; other variants use the same encoding assumption. Local estimates are not exact counts of complete provider requests.
