## New features

### Progressive Session Maintenance

Optional background summaries now record saved conversation events without changing conversation context, compaction, or the Summary pane.

**How to use:** Open `/settings` → **PSM**, enable **Progressive Session Maintenance**, optionally choose a summary model and reasoning level, then save with **Ctrl-S** and restart. Summaries run after 20 tracked events by default and at turn completion.

Summaries appear in `<session-id>.psm.ndjson` beside session history. Inspect `<session-id>.psm.status.json` for progress, model selection, saved-record counts, and redacted errors. Failed batches retry at a later trigger. Session exports include both files; pruning removes them.

PSM uses additional provider calls and quota. It sends full saved records, including prompts and tool data, to the selected provider. Review that provider’s privacy requirements before enabling it. Without a separate model selection, PSM uses the conversation provider and model.

PSM supports saved primary, side, and local-agent turns. Separate subagent sessions and `--no-session` runs produce no PSM summaries.

### Session context in prompt templates

Prompts now support `{{session_id}}` and `{{cwd}}`. Bundled instructions include these values automatically; no setup is needed.

**How to use:** Add either placeholder to a custom prompt fragment under `$MC_HOME/prompts/` or `~/.magi-code/prompts/`. Values reflect the current session and working directory, including child sessions. Use `/system-prompt` to inspect the rendered instructions. Compaction prompts also support both variables.

## Fixes

- Remove the duplicate terminal-environment label from rendered prompts. Missing terminal indicators now render as `unspecified`.

## Other changes

- Add bullet markers to loaded skills in Session Files.
- Refresh bundled tool and Code Mode guidance, strengthen Claude CLI tool restrictions, and clarify image-analysis instructions.
