### Running Tests

```bash
# Run all tests
cargo test
# Run tests with output
cargo test -- --nocapture
# Run specific module tests
cargo test bucket::tests
cargo test timestamp::tests
cargo test cli::tests
cargo test reader::tests
cargo test output::tests
# Run a specific test
cargo test test_parse_iso8601_with_timezone
# Run tests in release mode (faster)
cargo test --release
```

### Integration Testing

While unit tests cover individual modules, the project also includes:

1. **Example log files** in `examples/` directory:
   - `sample.log` - Basic example
   - `java-app.log` - 10,000+ line Java application log
   - `iso8601-*.log` - Various timestamp format examples
   - `apache-style.log`, `syslog.log`, `rfc2822.log`, etc.

2. **Manual testing** via command-line:
   ```bash
   ./target/release/logpile "ERROR" examples/java-app.log --png test.png
   ./target/release/logpile "INFO" examples/apache-style.log --json
   ```

### Continuous Integration

To add CI/CD, create `.github/workflows/test.yml`:

```yaml
name: Tests
on: [push, pull_request]
jobs:
  test:
    runs-on: ubuntu-latest
    steps:
      - uses: actions/checkout@v2
      - name: Install dependencies
        run: sudo apt-get install -y pkg-config libfontconfig1-dev
      - uses: actions-rs/toolchain@v1
        with:
          toolchain: stable
      - name: Run tests
        run: cargo test --verbose
```

### Test Quality Guidelines

All tests follow these principles:
- **Isolation**: Each test is independent
- **Clarity**: Test names describe what they test
- **Coverage**: Both success and error cases
- **Speed**: Fast execution (< 1 second total)
- **Reliability**: No flaky tests

### Future Test Additions

Potential areas for additional testing:
- [ ] Integration tests for end-to-end workflows
- [ ] Performance benchmarks
- [ ] Plot generation visual regression tests
- [ ] Fuzz testing for timestamp parser
- [ ] Property-based testing for bucket algorithms
