# Licensing

dbc-rs is available under a **dual-licensing** model:

## Open Source License (Default)

The software is licensed under either of:

- **Apache License, Version 2.0** ([LICENSE-APACHE]LICENSE-APACHE)
- **MIT License** ([LICENSE-MIT]LICENSE-MIT)

at your option.

This means you can use dbc-rs in:
- ✅ Open-source projects (any license)
- ✅ Personal projects
- ✅ Educational projects
- ✅ Commercial projects (with attribution)

**Requirements:**
- Include copyright notices
- Include license files
- State any significant changes

## Commercial License

For proprietary or commercial applications where you need:
- No requirement to disclose source code modifications
- No requirement to distribute derivative works under open-source licenses
- Simplified attribution requirements
- Legal protection and support

**Commercial licenses are available for purchase.**

See [LICENSE-COMMERCIAL](LICENSE-COMMERCIAL) for the full commercial license terms.

### When Do You Need a Commercial License?

You need a commercial license if:
- You want to keep modifications proprietary
- You want to avoid open-source license obligations
- You need legal indemnification
- You require commercial support

You **do NOT** need a commercial license if:
- Your project is open-source
- You're comfortable with MIT/Apache-2.0 terms
- You're using it for personal/educational purposes

### Obtaining a Commercial License

For commercial licensing inquiries, pricing, and terms, please [create an **Issue** in GitHub](https://github.com/reneherrero/dbc-rs/issues).

## License Compatibility

### Compatible with:
- ✅ MIT
- ✅ Apache-2.0
- ✅ BSD
- ✅ ISC
- ✅ Most permissive licenses

### May have conflicts with:
- ⚠️ GPL (unless using commercial license)
- ⚠️ AGPL (unless using commercial license)
- ⚠️ LGPL (check compatibility)

## Contributions

By contributing to dbc-rs, you agree that your contributions will be
licensed under the same dual-licensing model (MIT OR Apache-2.0 for
