Variants

Json(Error)

Serializing the plaintext payload / deserializing the recovered plaintext.

BadEnvelope(String)

The envelope is malformed, or its algorithm tag is unknown.

Decrypt

AEAD open failed — a wrong key OR a tampered ciphertext/nonce (Poly1305 tag mismatch). Indistinguishable by design; both mean “do not trust”.

Key(String)

The persisted key file is the wrong length or unreadable.

Io(Error)

I/O reading/writing the key file.
