Two-slot, versioned and checksummed file snapshot backend.

Each commit fully writes and synchronizes one slot, and the first commit to a slot also synchronizes its directory (on Unix; see durable). This protects the previous valid slot from a failed commit, but does not provide multi-process coordination or stronger portable power-loss guarantees than sync_all.
