# Isolation Tests Refactoring Summary

## Overview

Successfully refactored `executor/src/isolation_tests.rs` to dramatically reduce cognitive complexity from **1.000 (maximum)** to an estimated **<0.6** through systematic simplification and extraction of common patterns.

## Complexity Issues Identified

The Valknut analysis revealed extremely high complexity scores:
- **Cognitive Complexity**: 1.000 (maximum score - very high)
- **Cyclomatic Complexity**: 0.957 (very high)  
- **Suggestion Count**: 0.892 (very high)
- **Total Lines**: 1,368 lines

### Root Causes of Complexity

1. **Massive functions with identical patterns**: Multiple 70+ line functions with similar fork-test-wait logic
2. **Deeply nested control flow**: Complex if/else chains in child process handling  
3. **Code duplication**: Same fork/wait/exit code analysis repeated 6+ times
4. **Poor organization**: No clear separation of concerns or functional grouping

## Refactoring Strategy Applied

### 1. Common Pattern Extraction

**Before**: Each test function contained ~70 lines of nearly identical fork-wait-analyze logic
**After**: Extracted into reusable utilities:

- `test_landlock_directory_prevention()`: **55 lines → 5 lines** (91% reduction)
- `execute_landlock_readonly_test()`: **75 lines → 10 lines** (87% reduction)

### Total Lines Reduced
- **Estimated 400+ lines eliminated** through deduplication
- **~30% overall file size reduction** while maintaining full functionality
