What a propagation adds to the loss and dispersion of the medium (see ManakovSplitStep::run_fields).

Fields

gain: Option<FieldGain<'a>>

A distributed gain (see SplitStep::run_with_gain): the medium then carries no attenuation, the gain holds the power profile of the span.

birefringence: Option<Birefringence<'a>>

The birefringence of the span (two polarisations only).
