IoBuf

Struct IoBuf

Source
pub struct IoBuf { /* private fields */ }
Expand description

Immutable byte buffer.

Backed by either Bytes or a pooled aligned allocation.

Use this for immutable payloads. To build or mutate data, use IoBufMut and then IoBufMut::freeze.

For pooled-backed values, the underlying buffer is returned to the pool when the final reference is dropped.

All From<*> for IoBuf implementations are guaranteed to be non-copy conversions. Use IoBuf::copy_from_slice when an explicit copy from borrowed data is required.

Cloning is cheap and does not copy underlying bytes.

Implementations§

Source§

impl IoBuf

Source

pub fn copy_from_slice(data: &[u8]) -> Self

Create a buffer by copying data from a slice.

Use this when you have a non-static &[u8] that needs to be converted to an IoBuf. For static slices, prefer IoBuf::from which is zero-copy.

Source

pub fn is_pooled(&self) -> bool

Returns true if this buffer is tracked by a pool.

Tracked buffers originate from BufferPool allocations and are returned to the pool when the final reference is dropped.

Buffers backed by Bytes, and untracked fallback allocations from BufferPool::alloc, return false.

Source

pub fn len(&self) -> usize

Number of bytes remaining in the buffer.

Source

pub fn is_empty(&self) -> bool

Whether the buffer is empty.

Source

pub fn as_ptr(&self) -> *const u8

Get raw pointer to the buffer data.

Source

pub fn slice(&self, range: impl RangeBounds<usize>) -> Self

Returns a slice of self for the provided range (zero-copy).

For pooled buffers, empty ranges return an empty detached buffer (IoBuf::default) so the underlying pooled allocation is not retained.

Source

pub fn split_to(&mut self, at: usize) -> Self

Splits the buffer into two at the given index.

Afterwards self contains bytes [at, len), and the returned IoBuf contains bytes [0, at).

This is an O(1) zero-copy operation.

§Panics

Panics if at > len.

Source

pub fn try_into_mut(self) -> Result<IoBufMut, Self>

Try to convert this buffer into IoBufMut without copying.

Succeeds when self holds exclusive ownership of the backing storage and returns an IoBufMut with the same contents. Fails and returns self unchanged when ownership is shared.

For Bytes-backed buffers, this matches Bytes::try_into_mut semantics: succeeds only for uniquely-owned full buffers, and always fails for Bytes::from_owner and Bytes::from_static buffers. For pooled buffers, this succeeds for any uniquely-owned view (including slices) and fails when shared.
