system/instruction_size_warning — the session’s instruction files (CLAUDE.md files, rules files and the files they import) add up to more than the recommended limit. Numbers only: the host words the warning in the person’s language. Sent to Claude Desktop’s Code tab alone, at most once per process, on a conversation’s first turn after system/init; never stored in the transcript. Safe to ignore (CLI 2.1.288+).

Fields

total_chars: u64

Combined length, in characters, of the instruction files in the session prompt. Always over Self::total_limit_chars.

total_limit_chars: u64

The recommended limit for total_chars on the turn’s model, in characters.

file_count: u64

Number of files counted in total_chars. When it is 1, word the warning for a single file rather than a total.

largest_chars: Option<u64>

Length of the largest file, in characters. Present only when the warning should mention it: there are several files and this one by itself is over total_limit_chars.
