Selector for the hardware index of a backend whose devices are simply indexed (e.g. CUDA, ROCm).
Backend factory methods that take an index (Device::cuda, Device::rocm,
Device::libtorch_cuda) accept impl Into<DeviceIndex>, so the common
shorthand is to pass a plain integer literal:
