PORT NOTE (aliasing): Zig’s *T aliases freely; returning &'static mut
here would let two calls (or init_global + MiniKind::get_vm) hold
overlapping &mut to the same allocation — UB. Return the raw pointer;
callers reborrow &mut for the scope they need.
