A ledgered write that the repository seam refused.
Every guardrail Autumn can enforce at compile time is enforced there — a
ledgered repository without soft_delete does not compile, and purge is
not generated for one. This error covers what only the runtime can see.
Variants (Non-exhaustive)§
This enum is marked as non-exhaustive
ChainUnreadable
A revision could not be appended because the record’s chain could not be read — the ledger table is missing, or its migration has not been applied.
Fields
HardDeleteCascade
A hard-deleting parent’s dependent(..., on_delete = destroy) cascade
reached a ledgered child.
Neither outcome is available: erasing the child destroys the record its
ledger reconstructs, and soft-deleting it leaves a live foreign key
pointing at a parent row that is about to be deleted, which the database
rejects and rolls back. The parent’s macro cannot see that the child is
ledgered — they are separate #[repository] invocations — so this is
refused at runtime with a typed error rather than at compile time.
Fields
OutOfBandWrite
A framework write path that records no revision reached a ledgered table.
Counter-cache upkeep, dependent(.., delete_all | nullify) cascades,
#[votable] and #[commentable] writes, has_many(through) link
writes and portability imports run raw SQL. On a ledgered table, that
SQL would change or erase rows and record no revision. Autumn refuses
the write (#2319).
Fields
TenantChange
A ledgered write moved a record to another tenant (#2319).
A chain belongs to one (tenant, record). A move would leave the old
chain without a live row and start a new chain in the other tenant.
Fields
NonFiniteValue
A ledgered write carried a NaN or infinite float (#2326).
JSON cannot hold either value. A snapshot would store null and could not
be read back. The write is refused before the hash.
Fields
SnapshotNotCanonical
A stored snapshot is not the canonical text that was hashed (#2326).
The text parses, but it is not byte-identical to its canonical form. Someone re-encoded it, reordered its keys, or added a duplicate key.
Fields
SnapshotSchemaMismatch
A stored snapshot does not decode into the model’s current shape (#2326).
The model schema probably changed after the revision was written. This is
not proof of an edit: ledger_verify shows the difference.
Fields
ChainBroken
A record’s stored chain is broken, so its past state cannot be trusted.
