Variants

NamedByDid

Use whatever the DID names (DiscoveryMechanism::named_by). The default for a verifier with no configuration for this notary.

Pinned(DiscoveryMechanism)

Use exactly this mechanism and no other — §8.4.6’s per-notary pin.

A pin is a narrowing, never a widening: pinning a mechanism the DID cannot support fails rather than quietly resolving by another route, so an operator learns their configuration is wrong instead of getting a key from somewhere they did not choose.
