This capability is not part of the spec yet, and may be removed or changed at any point.

Current foreground-work state of a reusable child session.

Each update is a whole-object snapshot. Idle does not terminate the child; the parent can message it again, transitioning it back to running. Background activity may still emit other session updates while idle.

Variants (Non-exhaustive)

Non-exhaustive enums could have additional variants added in future. Therefore, when matching against variants of non-exhaustive enums, an extra wildcard arm must be added to account for any future variants.

Running(RunningStateUpdate)

Foreground work is in progress.

Idle(IdleStateUpdate)

The child is ready to process another prompt.

RequiresAction(RequiresActionStateUpdate)

Foreground work is blocked on user action.

Unknown(UnknownStateUpdate)

The Agent cannot currently determine foreground activity.

This replaces previously confirmed activity without ending the work or session.

Other(OtherStateUpdate)

Custom or future state.

Values beginning with _ are reserved for implementation-specific extensions. Other unknown values are reserved for future ACP variants.
