How many times one pack’s absorb is attempted before the store stops.

Three, and the reason it is not one: an absorb can fail for a reason outside the pack — the memory watchdog gave up, the repository was being deleted, a transient read error — and a single bad moment must not condemn durable bytes. It is not thirty either, because the resolve is deterministic in the store’s own state: a pack that failed three times with nothing else changing fails the fourth time for the same reason, and every one of those attempts is paid for by a client waiting on a push.
