The mapping in force on this thread.
The materialiser, the codec target and the defaulters are free
functions and associated functions with no state to carry a choice in
(the same code serves a dozen other columns), so the choice is the
thread’s for the duration of with_mapping and JavaMapping::Psm,
the default of idlc, outside it: a caller that needs the IDL-to-Java
shape asks for it with with_mapping(JavaMapping::Omg, ...).
Generation is synchronous on one thread; two threads
generating with different mappings do not see each other.
