The thunk pair at index.
One pair per key path, because a thunk has no context to carry its target
in. Out of range is a panic rather than a wrap-around: the old dispatcher
answered every index past the last one with the last pair, so a ninth key
path silently read the eighth one’s property. Prefer next_thunks, which
makes the question not arise.
