Converting math lists to horizontal lists (TeX: The Program
§699–§767, with e-TeX’s \middle) the way LuaTeX does it for
traditional (TFM) fonts.
LuaTeX keeps TeX82’s algorithm but takes the font-dependent values from
the \Umath… parameters of the current style (see
crate::mathparams). Observed differences from TeX82, all
established with black-box tests:
- glyphs made from math characters are protected (subtype 256), so that the node processing of an enclosing box leaves them alone;
- italic corrections are kern nodes of subtype “italic”, the other kerns made here are font kerns;
- a missing character from an undefined family is reported each time it is fetched (the field is not reset to empty);
- a null delimiter of a
\left/\rightfence is not shifted to the axis.
