String records: flat, or a rope.
The flat representation is canonical: a string whose code units all fit
in one byte is always OneByte, so two records with equal content have
equal representations. A rope is a concatenation of two strings that
flattens on the first use of its units (super::Heap::string); its
length and width are known without flattening.
