Decode the given image using the provided settings and the decoder.
If decoding was successful, the number of bytes that have been read in total is returned.
If an error is returned, it means that the file is somehow malformed. However, even if that’s the case, it is possible that a number of rows were decoded successfully and written into the decoder, so those can still be used, but the image might be truncated.
