The associated data binding a unit to its identity: chunk_type || 0x00 || unit_index.
unit_index is the slot the unit occupies within its chunk type: 0 for a
chunk that is one unit, and the chunk’s directory index for a LAYR frame,
which is one unit per chunk and would otherwise be swappable between two
LAYR chunks (crypt.unit_index_binding, section 9.3). The caller supplies
it; [crate::chunkio] is where the choice is made.
