Call f once through the jump table.
In a debug build, if the installed table maps f’s call_it address, the patched version
runs; otherwise f itself does. There is no stale-call detection and no retry: a panic from
f unwinds through call untouched, and code already running when a patch lands finishes as
the old code. Equivalent to HotFn::current(f).call(()); a release build calls f directly.
