Inline markup parser: mirrors docutils.parsers.rst.states.Body inline
processing (patterns.py start-strings, inliner.py)
with a pragmatic single-pass scanner.
Supported: *emphasis*, **strong**, ``literal``, interpreted
text with roles (:emphasis:, :strong:, :literal:, :code:,
:title-reference:, :pep-reference:, :rfc-reference:, suffix form),
phrase/simple/bare hyperlink references (name_, `text`_,
`text <target>`_, anonymous __), standalone URIs and e-mail,
footnote/citation references ([1]_, [#x]_, [#]_, [*]_, [CIT]_),
substitution references (|name|), inline internal targets (_x``),
backslash escapes.
