The footers a cache kept, as a fresh pass would have read them. file_bytes is
each file’s size from the listing, which the cache does not hold.
None for a file whose footer would not read, which is how the pass reports one
and so how the cache has to give it back. The whole entry is refused when it
disagrees with itself or with the listing.
