Current segment format version.

  • v1 — original layout.
  • v2 — adds per-block validity bitmaps (D-NULL). Absent values are no longer encoded as 0/""/false sentinels, so IS NULL and aggregates are correct on sparse data. See ColumnBlockMeta::validity_length.
  • v3 — the time column is stored as _time, the one name every layer uses. It was timestamp here, time in the schema registry and _time in SQL, so a reader who printed a schema and then wrote a query had to translate.

Chronix is pre-release, so readers for older versions were removed rather than kept: there is no data in the wild to migrate, and a reader that accepted v2 would hand back a column called timestamp that nothing looks for any more — zero rows and no error.
